Speaker: Prof Ng See-Kiong, Deputy Director at Institute of Data Science & Professor of Practice at School of Computing, National University of Singapore
See-Kiong Ng (Ph.D., Carnegie Mellon University), a recipient of the Singapore National Computer Board’s overseas scholarship (1986), is currently Professor of Practice at the Department of Computer Science of the School of Computing, National University of Singapore (NUS), and Director, Translational Research for the university’s Institute of Data Science. Founded in May 2016, the Institute is the focal point at NUS for developing integrated data science capabilities and nurturing data scientists for Singapore’s Smart Nation initiative. It pushes the boundary of data science through transdisciplinary upstream research, and creates impact by translating the research outcomes into real-life applications by collaborating with partners from the industry and public agencies.
Speaker: Mr Wang Weimin, Research Scientist at ByteDance AI Lab
Mr Wang Weimin is a research scientist at ByteDance AI Lab and a Kaggle Competition Grandmaster. His current research focuses are on multimodal capabilities and text to image/video generation. Weimin graduated from the National University of Singapore, and he was awarded the Singapore Government Scholarship (SM2). He has 7 years of industrial experience in data science and machine learning and was previously a research scientist in the ML Speech team at Amazon US.
Speaker: Dr Vishal Sharma, Data Science Lead, APAC at H2O.ai
Dr Vishal Sharma received Ph.D. from the National University of Singapore in 2011 for his work in computational intelligence. Vishal has applied machine learning in different domains such as banking, patents, smart city and renewable energy, delivering end-end solutions for corporate financing, analytics based lending, alpha investment strategy, machine translation systems, weather forecasting and others. Currently working as the data science lead, APAC at H2O.ai with a mission to democratise AI, he is driving product impact at scale through applied solution engineering in time series, natural language processing and recommender systems and other AI disciplines.
